This week, Alvin ISD’s 29,000-plus students will join more than four million others across the state in celebrating Texas Public Schools Week. Texas Public Schools Week spotlights the host of educational opportunities available to students attending Texas public schools. #AllinAlvinISD

March 3rd is Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day, an opportunity to thank the dedicated Alvin ISD employees who keep our schools, libraries, gyms, and offices open. Maintenance workers include plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, carpenters, custodians and groundskeepers.
Maintenance department employees fix and maintain facilities, machines and mechanical equipment. They often carry out many different tasks in a single day.
Take a moment to express gratitude to all who ensure our buildings are safe and in working order!

Learning Newton’s laws of motion is easier when you make them happen yourself!
Classes @ManvelJH used AlkaSeltzer tablets, water and a medicine bottle to model a rocket launch to review force, motion, action and reaction! #AllinAlvinISD

Learning doesn't stop when the last bell of the day rings at Glenn York Elementary.
Any given day of the week, the halls are still filled with laughter and excitement after the school day ends as different clubs meet to give students the chance to focus on fun enrichment opportunities.
But the quietest club meets every week in the library and when they get to practicing, you can't hear a peep!
York's American Sign Language club is teaching students to communicate with just their hands and facial expressions #AllinAlvinISD.
Parent volunteer Roxann Coffman, a certified deaf education and ASL teacher, leads the group and is continually impressed by how quickly the kids pick up words and phrases.
As a group, the club learned the ASL alphabet in less than an hour, much faster than some of the adult classes she's taught in the past, Coffman said.
Earlier this month, they spent time learning Valentine's Day-themed signs and then played a game of bingo to test their skills.

It's Go Texan Day! Let's see those cowboys and cowgirls!
