Earl Humbird

Earl Humbird has served on the Board of Trustees for nineteen years. He and his wife, Kathy, are proud Alvin High School graduates from the class of 1977. He has three daughters, who are also Alvin High School alums, and nine grandchildren living in the district. Earl retired in 2017. He enjoys volunteering his time supporting and engaging with the staff and
students of the Alvin ISD.

Regan Metoyer-Peterson

Regan has worked in higher education for more than 20 years and is an Assistant Director at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. Metoyer-Peterson is a proud alumnus of Alvin High School, Alvin Community College, and The University of Houston Clear Lake and is presently pursuing a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. She and her husband, Rodney Peterson, have 4 children. Metoyer-Peterson has her attention on retaining quality teachers and staff, addressing pandemic related learning loss, and nurturing the partnership between the school district and the community. 

Albert "AJ" Johnson

AJ was first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2021. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a BS in Management Information Systems. AJ is an active member in the community which includes but not limited to being a member of The Rotary Club of Pearland, and a youth mentor in Pearland and Alvin ISD. AJ is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He has a passion for helping others and developing relationships, especially for those who contribute to the enrichment of our youth. These skills have allowed him to transition from professional sports to being a successful Insurance and Financial Services Agent for the past 18 years. AJ believes extracurricular activities play a vital role in the public school education experience. He will continue to work with other community partners to provide access and information to parents and students across Alvin ISD. He and his wife Jenise have four children. Three of them graduated from Manvel High School and the youngest attends Marek Elementary.

Cory Scott

Cory was first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2021. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is
co-owner and operator of the family business, Scott Funeral Home. Cory is active in the community and has been involved in numerous local civic organizations, including, Alvin Rotary Club, Alvin-Manvel Chamber of Commerce, Alvin-Manvel Knights of Columbus No. 6403, and Alvin Little League. Being active and supporting the community in which he lives is of value to Cory. He has twins, Brooks and Burkley, that attend Alvin High School.

Cheryl Harris

Cheryl Harris was re-elected to Position 3 for a fourth term which began May 2021.  Cheryl has worked in social services for more than 25 years for a non-profit that serves individuals with developmental disabilities. Harris is a proud alumnus of Alvin High School and received her Applied Science degree from Alvin Community College.  Mrs. Harris and her husband Mark are the parents of two daughters who are also Alvin ISD graduates, and she is the proud “Cher” of their newborn granddaughter. Cheryl is an active member of the Alvin Sunrise Rotary. 

David Selsky

David has been a very engaged resident and served on several committees to determine school rezoning due to growth as well as committees to study the need for bonds to make recommendations to the school board.  David has also served on other area boards including the Pearland Economic Development Corporation, the Tax Incremental Reinvestment Zone board, Pearland Planning & Zoning Commission, and others.

David has worked for UK-owned Direct Energy for much of the last two decades, running their power plant fleet and windfarms in North America before overseeing their safety programs both home and across Europe.  Today, David continues working to deliver safety programs for a North American commercial disaster restoration company.

David and his family have lived in Alvin ISD since 2006 and his teens have been with the district since kindergarten. David's daughter is a junior at Shadow Creek High School and his son graduated last year and is now a sophomore at A&M. This October, David and his wife Rachel will celebrate their 21th anniversary.

Gabe Garza

Gabriel "Gabe" Garza, Position 7

Gabe Garza, a Rio Grande Valley native from Mission, Texas, and his wife Danica Schlegel Garza reside in Manvel with their two children. He and his wife are proud graduates of Texas Tech University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Restaurant Management (Go Red Raiders!). Gabe is in his 11th year with Marriott International, working remotely, as a Senior Sales Executive for the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

As a strong believer that civic involvement is the best way to serve others, give back, and enrich your life, Gabe has rooted himself as a very active and engaged citizen. He has served, or is currently serving, on various boards and committees within the Houston Hospitality Industry, the City of Manvel, Alvin ISD, and his church home, Redeemer Manvel. In Alvin ISD, Gabe is a YET Mentor and has served on the School Boundary Advisory Committee, School District Strategic Planning Committee, and the Alvin ISD Education Foundation. He also served as the Alvin ISD Representative on the Shadow Creek Ranch Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 2 Board.

Gabe has lived a life surrounded by public educators. He is a grandson, son, son-in-law, nephew, and husband of current and retired teachers and administrators. His wife Danica, who was born and raised in Manvel, is a 2005 graduate of Alvin High School and just began her 15th year of teaching in the district. Their daughter is also a current student in Alvin ISD.

Gabe is a proud man of God, has a passion for people, building relationships, and service to others. As a strong supporter of public education, he looks to leverage the experience he has gained through active civic involvement, along with his business acumen, to serve the Alvin ISD community he loves.
