From the art studio to the stage to the concert hall, Alvin ISD students and educators are making their mark at the state and national levels. The district's Fine Arts Department has recently earned three prestigious recognitions in visual arts, theatre and music, showcasing the exceptional talent of its students, the dedication of its educators and the district's commitment to providing outstanding fine arts opportunities.
These honors include the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) District of Distinction Award, the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA) Exemplary Award of Distinction and national recognition for the Shadow Creek High School Wind Symphony through the 2026 Mark of Excellence project.
For the fourth consecutive year, Alvin ISD has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association, placing the district among the top 10 percent of visual arts programs in Texas.
Of more than 1,200 eligible districts and learning institutions statewide, only 127 earned the prestigious designation in 2026. The award recognizes districts that demonstrate exceptional commitment to visual arts education through student achievement, advocacy, community engagement and opportunities for creative expression.
Alvin ISD's theatre programs also received one of the state's highest honors, earning the Exemplary designation through the 2026 Texas Educational Theatre Association Award of Distinction Program.
The Exemplary designation is the highest level of recognition awarded through the program, and Alvin ISD was one of just 28 Texas school districts to achieve this distinction.
The award recognizes districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement, advocacy and commitment to theatre education while providing resources and experiences that enhance student learning and engagement.
Adding to the district's fine arts accomplishments, the Shadow Creek High School Wind Symphony, under the direction of Josh Mooney, earned national recognition in the 2026 Mark of Excellence project, sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education.
The ensemble received two distinctions in the National Wind Band Honors competition:
National Winner in the New Music Division (High School)
Commended Winner in Band Class AAAAAA
More than 650 musical ensembles from across the nation entered the 2026 competition. The top 25 percent of entrants earn National Winner recognition, while the next 25 percent receive Commended Winner honors.
Together, these prestigious awards highlight the strength of fine arts education across Alvin ISD and the district's commitment to providing students with opportunities to discover their passions, express their creativity and develop their talents.
From state-level recognition in visual arts and theatre to national recognition in music, these achievements reflect the dedication of Alvin ISD's talented students and exceptional fine arts educators.
Congratulations to our students, educators and Fine Arts Department for continuing to set the standard for excellence!
