Alvin ISD proudly celebrated the dedication, passion and service of its employees during the district’s annual Employee Recognition Ceremony held on May 7. The special evening honored the individuals who make a difference in the lives of students every day and recognized employees for their years of service, professional excellence and lasting impact across the district.

“The Employee Recognition Ceremony is one of the highlights of our year because we get to celebrate the incredible people who make up our district,” Superintendent Carol Nelson said. “We all do different jobs, but at the heart of it, our jobs are all about one thing, serving our students and making sure they have what they need to be successful. The Employee Recognition Ceremony gives us a chance to celebrate everyone and all of the different ways we work together to achieve that goal.”

The ceremony recognized employees celebrating milestone years of service with Alvin ISD, including staff members who have dedicated 20, 25, 30 and 35 years to the district. Two employees were recognized for an incredible 40 years of service to Alvin ISD, a remarkable achievement reflecting decades of commitment to students, families and the community.

In addition, more than 60 employees who will retire this year were honored for their service and contributions to the district throughout their careers.

The evening also celebrated employees who exemplify excellence in leadership and education. Department Employees of the Year were recognized alongside Alvin ISD’s top campus leaders, who were announced earlier in the year.

Following the recognition of campus paraprofessionals, rookie teachers and teachers of the year, district-level winners were announced.

Lucero Herrera from York Elementary was named the Elementary Paraprofessional of the Year, while Jessica Leija from Shadow Creek High School earned the title of Secondary Paraprofessional of the Year.

Savannah Torres from Bennett Elementary was recognized as Elementary Rookie Teacher of the Year, and Bradley Williamson from Nolan Ryan Junior High was named Secondary Rookie Teacher of the Year.

The district’s highest teaching honors were awarded to Caren Martin from Hasse Elementary, who was named Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Tanya Hardin from J.B. Hensler College and Career Academy, who was named Secondary Teacher of the Year. Martin and Hardin will now represent Alvin ISD in the Region 4 Teacher of the Year competition.

“I’m elated we have this event to remind us of the heart behind Alvin ISD, our people. From classrooms to campuses to departments across the district, it’s important to celebrate the staff members whose dedication and passion help make Alvin ISD a special place for students to learn and grow,” Nelson said.
