SB12

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of Alvin ISD Students,

During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to inform parents and guardians of their rights and to seek parental consent for health-related services.

In Alvin ISD, our goal is to be a supportive partner in this effort by providing high-quality academic instruction while also supporting the overall well-being of our students so they can remain focused on learning. Teachers and staff may occasionally check in with students about their well-being (for example, asking how a child is feeling). At times, more formalized support may be needed. When this occurs, our intent is always to work in ways that align with your role as the parent or guardian.

To support this partnership, Alvin ISD provides a variety of health-related and mental health-related services for students. Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, state law requires parents to provide annual consent for these services. Two forms are available in the Skyward Parent Portal:

·        Health Notice and Consent Form

·        Counseling Notice and Consent Form

These forms will be available for completion beginning August 30, 2025, and must be submitted by September 12, 2025. Please log in to your Skyward Parent Portal to complete the forms.

Please note: While parent consent is required for health and mental health services, certain legally required activities—such as behavioral threat assessments—require parental notification but do not allow an opt-out option under the law.

To help address questions about this new requirement, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. If you have additional questions, you may also contact your child’s school nurse or counselor.

We appreciate your partnership in the education and well-being of your child. Thank you for completing the required forms and for working with us to ensure our students remain safe, supported, and focused on their education.
