Requirements

Primary Purpose

Patrol district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and to prevent property loss to the district due to theft or vandalism. Enforce all laws, including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws. Work independently.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma; or GED

  • Current Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). No person whose TCOLE license has been suspended, revoked or permanently voluntarily surrendered will be considered;

  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a driving record insurable by the AISD carrier;

  • Must be eligible to be bonded as required by Texas Education Code Section 37.09(h);

  • Must submit fingerprints to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to access Texas and Federal criminal history record information through the DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse of Texas pursuant to Texas Government Code Chapter 411. The criminal history query must be completed prior to starting employment. The applicant must pay a non-refundable fee;

  • An applicant candidate who is currently under investigation by another police department or pending civil litigation will not be considered;

  • Prospective applicants must pass an extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical agility evaluation, physical exam, and a drug screen.

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Family Code and Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code;

  • General knowledge of criminal investigations and police report writing;

  • Training and proficiency in subduing offenders, including the use of reasonable force and handcuffing techniques;

  • Proficiency in the care, maintenance and operation of the police radio, firearms, handcuffs, OC spray, expandable baton, audio-visual equipment, computer systems and general office equipment;

  • Ability to use and care for small arms and to effectively operate police vehicles and other equipment in a safe and efficient manner;

  • Proficiency in the procedures of school based law enforcement;

  • Ability to decisively choose appropriately among several alternative solutions for situations that change occasionally and rapidly;

  • Ability to interpret and apply new and established regulations, rules, policies, and procedures;

  • Ability to work effectively, courteously and professionally with students, parents, staff and the general public in a diverse cultural environment and in situations involving the maintenance of law and order;

  • Ability to think clearly and respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, including the ability to apply emergency first aid/CPR techniques;

  • Physical ability to perform assigned tasks and functions that may often be hazardous and unpredictable.

Background in law enforcement or related work experience

Salary

Pay Grade 8
225 day work calendar
Minimum is $27/hr
Pay is commensurate with experience
TCOLE Certification Pay: Master - $4,000/yr, Advanced - $3,000/yr, Intermediate - $2,000/yr.

Testing Information

Written Test

As a condition of employment, police officer applicants are required to pass every section of the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) developed by Stanard & Associates, Inc. Failure to achieve an overall minimum of 70% on the written test will constitute failure.

Physical Agility Test

As a condition of employment for all sworn personnel, police officer applicants are required to pass a physical agility test based upon standards which have been determined to identify the general physical ability of police personnel. Failure to achieve the required level of performance in any event will constitute failure of the entire physical agility test.
