Today at dismissal, we caught a sweet moment between Ms. Macias & a first-grade friend. What is normally a very fast paced & at times can be a hectic part of the day Ms. Macias stopped & took a few minutes to teach a friend how to tie his shoes. She didn't have to do this, but she saw a window of opportunity & grasped the chance to teach someone a skill he'll use for the rest of his life. If you've ever wanted to volunteer at Wilder, whether it be for a field trip, classroom guest reader, school day assistance, career day speaker, or Wolf Pack Dads, the district requires that you complete the volunteer registration form annually. The required background checks don't happen overnight, so plan ahead. If you have questions, please call the front office and speak with someone who can help. Hello Wilder families & friends. Now that we've been in school for a few weeks, we wanted to share a few reminders to help ensure we're all on the same page. Doors open at 7:15; at 7:45, teachers invite students into their classrooms to listen to announcements and prepare for the day. Students who want to eat breakfast must arrive by 7:45, as food service stops at 7:50. The instructional day begins promptly at 8:00, so if your student is a car rider, please ensure you are in the car rider line by 7:45 to ensure that they are inside the building and in their classroom by 8:00. We appreciate everyone's help ensuring that these items are taken into consideration each and every school day. Our 4th-grade scientists have been learning about lab safety. One of the things we teach our students at Wilder is that our number one job is to always keep them safe, and in a science lab, that is especially true. Luckily, the library has a new community coloring poster that students can be a part of while visiting the library. Yesterday, our 2nd graders had a surprise guest reader, Ms. Natalie Buford. Ms. Buford is an Elementary Curriculum Coordinator with Alvin ISD, and we were so pleased that she stopped by Wilder. They loved listening to her read a laugh-out-loud funny, slightly gross book about boogers. If you visited the Book Bus this summer and still have their books at home, please bring them back to school and give them to Mrs. Sullivan or Mrs. Alex in the library. They'll send them back for you. Check out what Mrs. Owens' 2nd graders worked on this week. They built a Thinking Classroom. Students worked in small randomized groups at dry-erase boards. They tackled challenging problems, bounced ideas off each other, and actively built their own understanding. It’s all about collaboration, critical thinking, and getting students up and moving to learn!
