Barbara Bennett Elementary

This week in Mr. Scott's music class, our Bluejays did some independent and small group work on their rhythm reading and composition skills, working through a variety of centers to develop their musicianship, from reading rhythms to explaining rests and creating their own short compositions using things like animals and fruit. It's been a great week in the Bennett Music Room.

Ms. Jackson, second grade teacher, received a grant from the AISD Education Foundation. She and her students were so excited to pick up all of her Lakeshore supplies that she was able to buy from her grant money. Way to go Ms. Jackson.

From reading to the class to counting out loud and even drawing and writing about what we like, a lot of educational learning is happening in Ms. Campos' kindergarten class.

Mrs. Barletta-Trembath's 5th graders are discussing how they can "fix-up" their reading when their understanding breaks down with their peers.

Bennett students enjoyed treats from Jeremiah's Italian Ice for participating and turning in their Summer Reading bingo card. Way to go!

ASD classes made rootbeer floats for our students. They learned that soda mixes with ice cream and fizzes. They enjoyed that they got to eat it also some spills and messes but nothing but memories ♥️

Staff of the week goes to... Drum Roll... Mrs. Samantha Guy! She has taken on multiple leadership roles this year with ease and grace. She approaches every challenge with a positive attitude, and whenever she notices a problem, she tackles it head-on and always finds a solution. Her classroom runs so smoothly, and it is clear that her students truly love her! Her paraprofessionals also love her positive attitude, funny energy, and the joy she brings to the classroom each day. We are so thankful to have someone who leads with positivity, teamwork, and a true passion for students. Thank you for all that you do!

A little peek at the learning happening in Mrs. Cruz’s class! 💙🔢 Our Kinder mathematicians have been practicing using counters while counting forward from 1–10 and backward from 10–1. Little hands, growing minds, and so much learning!✨

Students in Mrs. Abrego's kindergarten class used hand lens to look closely and record just like real scientists do.

Coach Thrasher and Bennett students celebrated Michael Jackson day. They had so much fun.

Party time in Miss Torres' Kindergarten class! We celebrated our birthday theme day by counting M&Ms on sugar cookies, running a safe candy science experiment, and playing a collaborative counting cup game.

First grade students in Mrs. Peacock's class learned all about open syllable words! Students used sound maps and Play-Doh to map out words and practiced coding open syllable words. They did a great job! ☺️

Kindergarten’s first library time is in the books! From learning how to care for books to scanning their very own checkouts, they had a blast—and couldn't wait to get home and start reading thanks to our amazing librarian Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. S. 📖❤️
