First graders and two third-grade classes learned about the poetry form of Haiku in the library. After learning this style, they became poets and wrote haikus independently. Their poetry was submitted to the Expressive Education National Schools Project through www.youngpoets.org. Twenty-six of our students' poems were selected to be published in the 31st annual poetry anthology, The Young American Poetry Digest. Let's go Bearkats!

Our kindergarten students put their reading skills to the test. Each student was assigned a sight word. They had to read the eggs and only choose the ones with their sight word on it. What an eggcellent idea. They had a hopping good time! @AlvinISD
