My name is Blythe Hopson and I am currently in year 9 of teaching! I have been at Manvel since I graduated from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) I continue to sing professionally with a chamber choir called Cantare Houston, and have previously sung with the Houston Symphony Chorus and the Houston Chamber Choir.

I love to spend time with my family and friends, and I enjoy traveling over the summers! I'm also an avid sports fan, and you can often catch me at an Astros, Dash, Dynamo, or Texans game. I look forward to getting to know everybody better as the year progresses! Hoka Hey!

Hi, Y'all! My name is Brady Weldon, and I am beginning my tenth year of teaching. I've taught both middle school and high school choirs in the Houston area, and I am so happy to be a part of the Manvel choir family! I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, and am currently working on my master's degree in music education from Texas State University! I love to sing outside of school, composer music for choirs, and currently sing with Ms. Hopson in Cantare Houston, as well as with other choirs around the area. I even pick up a few Jazz gigs here and there!

I love to travel, and spend time with my friends and family! I love to cook, bake and discover new recipes. I'm also a (usually) dedicated runner. I'm a huge nerd, and proudly ascribe to many fandoms, but none more than The Lord of the Rings.

2023-2024: Hoka Hey, and let's go!

Laura Lisk-McCallum

Laura Lisk-McCallum, mezzo-soprano, is a native Houstonian. She was a voice student at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) before getting her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Houston (2016) and her Master’s Degree from Louisiana State University (2021). While a student at UH she was in the studio of Cynthia Clayton and during her time at LSU she was in the studio of Dr. Loraine Sims.

Her professional achievements include performing with Houston Grand Opera, CANTARE Houston, and Ashlawn Opera. She is currently a staff singer at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston. She has performed in masterclasses for Susan Graham, Audra McDonald, and Martin Katz. Some of her performance credits include Turandot, The Flying Dutchman, Gianni Schicchi, Giulio Cesare, Two Remain, and Sunday in the Park with George.

Fun fact about Mrs. Lisk is that after completing her undergraduate degree she lived in Milan, Italy for a year, teaching English to elementary and middle schoolers. She speaks Italian and loves traveling to Italy to enjoy their food!

Mrs. Lisk's goal as a music teacher is to foster self-confidence within her students and give them the work ethic and tools they need to be both successful musicians and students. She looks forward to working with you!
