Ms. Cross’ AP Chemistry students at Manvel High School learned that in many chemical reactions, a delicate balance forms as reactions move toward equilibrium.
During a recent lab, students explored how chemical reactions shift and rebalance when conditions change by carefully mixing ferric chloride, potassium thiocyanate, and potassium chloride and observing the results.
As they created each mixture, students collected data, noted visible changes, and compared their results to a control sample. They discussed how changes in concentration affected the system and how those shifts caused the reaction to move toward a new balance point.
Ms. Cross explained that even small changes can impact a reaction, making careful observation essential to understanding how equilibrium works.
