Alvin Reading Club (ARC)

(fka: 2X2 & Bluebonnet)

Students can earn prizes by reading books and completing quizzes in Google Classroom (parents may read to students and transcribe responses). Students are responsible for choosing and checking out their own books. Library staff will not choose for them or hold books, unless the hold request is entered via the library catalog.

After a student has completed their first challenge, their tracking card will be added to the library's Reading Wall of Fame. For each book and quiz completed, students receive a sticker for each point to place on their card and a prize from the treasure chest.

Books are all marked with levels one through four. Students receive one point for each level of a completed book, so a level one book equals one point, while a level three book equals three points. Students are not expected to read every book on the list, but rather to reach a certain number of points based on their grade levels. Goals to receive the completion prize at the end of the year are as follows:

  • Pre-K, Kinder, & 1st grades: 20 Points

  • 2nd & 3rd grades: 30 Points

  • 4th & 5th grades: 40 Points

Register by clicking the button below. A class link will be sent to Google Classroom within one week, and all quizzes are linked in Google Classroom. Students can also register by stopping by the library and speaking to Mrs. Ermenc during open library.

Please do not submit the sign up form multiple times. You will be added to Google Classroom for the reading challenge within a week of completing the form.

Program guidelines and procedures:

  • Students may only check out one program book at a time, but are welcome to come to open library to switch books as soon as they finish one.

  • Quizzes turned in on Google Classroom by Sunday night each week will be graded on Monday, and treasure chest tickets will be delivered to students on their following library visit. Students should understand that sometimes there will be delays due to schedule changes and other responsibilities, but prizes will be delivered as soon as the library schedule permits.

  • Treasure chest tickets can be redeemed during open library in the mornings and during class library visits only.

  • Parents or siblings may read books and questions to the student, and type in verbal responses, but the answers should be those of the student only.

  • If a student scores less than 70% on any quiz, the quiz will be reset and the student will need to retake the quiz. Students may reference the book during the quiz. There is no limit to the number of times a student may take a quiz.

  • Quizzes are to be completed at home. If a student does not have internet access at home, they may complete the quizzes in open library, but they will need to arrive early enough to have ample time to complete it (as close to 7:30 AM as possible).

  • Lost tickets or prizes will not be replaced.

  • The last day to submit quizzes for the 2023-2024 school year is April 28, 2024.
