When we think about school, we often think of teachers and students, but there’s a quiet force in the building making sure students are actually okay enough to learn: The School Counselor. School counselors are the ultimate multitaskers. On any given day, they are:

The Emotional Anchor: Helping a student navigate a tough morning or a mental health crisis.
The Path-Finder: Guiding seniors through the maze of college apps and career dreams.
The Bridge Builders: Connecting parents, teachers, and students to make sure nobody falls through the cracks.
The Conflict Resolvers: Teaching the life skills that aren't found in a math 101 syllabus.

Education isn’t just about grades; it’s about growing into a whole person. Counselors provide the safety net that allows students to take risks, fail, and get back up again. This week is Counselor Appreciation Week, and at Wilder, we have one of the best: Ms. LaNetta Price. Ladies & Gentlemen, start your collecting! Call your grandparents, talk to your neighbors, ask your friends at work to save all their plastic grocery bags. We don't care if they have holes or tears; it doesn't matter. Just save them! Every bag is worth its weight in gold (and it helps save the Earth). Our 5th graders are working hard this morning, taking their Jr. High Math MAP test in the cafeteria. Our 5th-grade math teachers have worked hard this year to prepare our students, and I know that Mrs. Melton and Mrs. Herrera are proud of all they've achieved thus far. Lots of exciting things are happening in 2nd grade these days. Mrs. Owen recently had her students research 2 different habitats. They had to compare them, predict what would happen to the plants and animals if it didn't rain for a long time in one of the habitats, and then present their findings to their classmates. Recently, 2nd graders in Ms. Clinton's math class went on a 3D scavenger hunt throughout our hallways. Anytime students get to walk, talk, and learn at the same time, it's always a hit! This morning, one of our 1st graders in Ms. Washington's class checked out the 26,000th book of the school year from the library. I think it's safe to say she was excited for her swag bag, poster, and, of course, her new books.
