Alvin Junior High has been catering grades 6 through 8 with dedication and passion since 1968. Nearly 840 students populate the hallways of Alvin Junior High, although the school can hold up to 1,000 kids after the school went through a series of renovations and expansions thanks to the 2013 bond referendum.

Students can now become involved with different extracurriculars such as National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Cheer, and Yearbook. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Project Lead the Way, a Gateway program that provides engineering and biomedical science curriculum for middle schoolers. Inside the classroom, students can take pre-AP classes as well as art, choir, band, teen leadership and tech courses, to name a few.

AJH met the standardized testing standard set by the state of Texas, with a 76% satisfactory rate. The average class size in Alvin Junior High is 20 students per classroom. The Alvin Junior High Mustangs’ colors are orange and white. Students also have the opportunity to become involved in varying athletic programs, including basketball, tennis, swimming, track, volleyball and football.

Alvin Junior High has a unique student body, with 51% Hispanic, 3% African-American, 41% White, 1% Asian and 2% Multiracial making up the student population.

Falling in line with other Alvin ISD schools, Alvin Junior High enjoys a strong and distinct community. “It is a privilege to be part of a school community where teachers and staff cultivate an environment where students achieve and believe in themselves and their school,” Principal LeRoy Castro said.
