Come graduation day, 10 JB Hensler College and Career Academy students won’t have to worry about joining the workforce, because they have already officially accepted jobs from local industry partners at the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council Career Signing Day.
BCPC’s Career Signing Day aims to provide an avenue for CTE students that have taken industry-based courses in high school to find jobs in the field. In the last five years, more than 150 graduating high school seniors from the area have accepted full-time craft careers that include on-the-job training through the program.
“Career Signing Day is such a unique program and we are grateful to BCPC and its partner companies for seeing the value in our students and providing them a solid foundation for their futures,” Alvin ISD CTE Director Brandy Johanson said. “Through Signing Day, our students are able to secure entry-level jobs that will put them on track to lucrative careers.”
Students were required to earn their NCCER, National Center for Construction Education and Research, certifications to participate in BCPC Signing Day, which takes commitment, JBH Construction Teacher Larry Salinas said. But with it, they are so much closer to achieving their goals.
“Their hard work earned them this opportunity and now they are preparing to start their careers in the petrochemical industry,” Salinas said. Four of Salinas’ students accepted positions at Signing Day.
Joshua Hernandez from Shadow Creek High School signed to work for Zachry Group and five seniors from Alvin High School signed with local businesses: Mauricio Manriquz, Zachry Group; Oscar Sagredo, Clean Harbors; Eduardo Moreno, Brock Group; Jake Adame, Zachry Group; and Richard Verdin, Ascend Performance Materials.
Manvel High School had four seniors accept job offers: Angel Alonzo, Apache Industrial Services; Adrian Astudillo, Turner Industries; Agustin Fernandez, Brock Group; and Ivan Hernandez, Zachry Group.
