Naming a new school district facility offers a meaningful opportunity to shape its identity and foster a sense of culture. The district is seeking input from students, staff, and community members who reside within Alvin ISD to help name four new facilities.
Alvin ISD Board Policy CW (local) states that school facilities shall generally be named for a person or a place: If the name of a person is to be considered, that individual should have attained prominence locally or nationally in the fields of education, science, art, statesmanship, political science, or military achievement; or have been an early Texas pioneer. Persons who have or will have federal buildings named in their honor shall not be considered. If the name of a place is to be considered, the criteria should include historical relevance.
The district is accepting nominations for the following facilities: Elementary #23, located in Canterra Creek, Replacement elementary on Mustang Road (will replace Walt Disney Elementary and Stevenson Primary), Junior High #10, located in Canterra Creek, and Elementary #24, located in Valencia.
Nominations may be submitted at www.alvinisd.net/naming from April 13, 2026, through April 24, 2026. Each submission must include a brief statement with relevant biographical or historical information, along with a rationale for the recommendation. The naming committee will review all submissions, and final recommendations will be presented to the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees at an upcoming Board meeting to be determined.
