Carol Nelson

Superintendent Carol Nelson has passionately served the students, parents, and staff of Alvin ISD and the community for over 30 years. Before assuming the role of Superintendent, Mrs. Nelson served Alvin ISD as a campus teacher, librarian, assistant principal, principal, and Associate Superintendent. She also was an adjunct instructor for Alvin Community College.

Superintendent Nelson is active in the community, supporting numerous civic and community organizations. She served on the City of Alvin Library Board for several years where she held the position of President. She was instrumental in advocating for a larger children’s section during her years on the Board. In addition, she also served the community by participating on the Alvin Community College Foundation Board for 15 years. Mrs. Nelson, alongside her husband, Bill, have actively been involved in the Alvin Rotary Club, organizing the annual Frontier Day Parade. She does not take for granted the honors she has received from the organizations she has served. Having been chosen as a most influential teacher in the past was one of the highlights of her time as a classroom teacher in Alvin ISD. In 2011, she was selected by her peers as Alvin ISD’s Principal of the year. She has received many awards, including being named the Alvin/Manvel Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Leader of the Year in 2021, Alvin/Manvel Chamber of Commerce Women in Leadership Award in 2023, the Athletics' Integrity in Leadership Award, the Meritorious Budget Award, as well as the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Award.

Mrs. Nelson is dedicated to providing an environment that enhances the learning and development of each student. Her goal is to continue the legacy of academic excellence that Alvin ISD has provided for many years. Mrs. Nelson also believes that all students should have the opportunity to learn and achieve while working at their highest potential.

Amidst her duties as Superintendent, her greatest love remains the students of Alvin ISD where she regularly attends many student activities as she has formed the Superintendent Student Advisory Committee, meeting with students from each high school on a regular basis to receive their input on current issues.

Her greatest love, of course, is her husband, Bill, a graduate of Alvin ISD and their three children: Emily, a family physician, Rob, an orthodontist, and daughter Katie, a Texas A&M Veterinary College graduate, is now a mixed animal veterinarian.

She loves spending time with her precious grandson, Ryan, and traveling when time permits.
