27 Alvin ISD employees receive new Believes Award

Beliefs Drive Actions. That is what the Alvin ISD District Design Team had in mind when they came up with the idea for the Alvin ISD Believes Award.

The Alvin ISD Believes Award is a district-wide initiative that will be implemented each nine weeks. For the inaugural award, the nominations came from the Alvin ISD District Design Team.

“The idea behind the Believes Award is to recognize employees that truly live out our core beliefs,” shared Lisa Burns, Alvin ISD Director of Professional Learning. “Since the District Design Team came up with the idea for this award, we felt it was fitting for them be the first to nominate their peers.”

“Alvin ISD is an organization that is driven by a strong set of established beliefs. As our Board helps guide Alvin ISD in the pursuit of our District vision, they enthusiastically embraced the idea of recognizing our outstanding educators that exemplify our vision and beliefs as they serve students on a daily basis,” stated Dr. Daniel Combs, Alvin ISD Interim Superintendent.

On February 11 and February 12, Alvin ISD Administrators and Board Members surprised 27 Alvin ISD employees with a certificate and a gold lapel pin.

The Inaugural Believes Award Recipients included principals, teachers, custodians, and bus drivers.

One of the recipients, Glenn York Lead Custodian Marcia Reid, lives the belief that campus leaders establish a climate where everyone matters by creating a culture of pride and ownership in their schools.

“Marcia Reid is an illustration of this belief. The pride she has in the maintenance of our school is evident in everything she does. Every staff member can speak on the ownership she has in keeping our school clean and it creates a ripple effect with the teachers and students alike,” shared a colleague of Ms. Reid.

Another example is Believes Award Recipient Pomona Principal Renae Rives.

“Renae lives out Alvin ISD’s core beliefs each and every day on her campus as well as in the community. She believes in the vision by creating, not only a culture of learning, but also creating engaging programs that meet the needs of each student on her campus,” stated a member of the District Design Team.

Mr. Victor Martinez, teacher at Wilder Elementary, was nominated for his commitment to excellence for each student and every program. Not only is Martinez a math and science teacher, but he also teaches both subjects to 4thand 5thgraders in English and Spanish while holding the titles of campus Science Chair and Lego Robotics Club Sponsor.

“My ultimate goal is to have kids enjoy every aspect of school because the more fun they have, the more they learn,” Martinez shared. “My passion for education is what drives me to be the best educator I can be each and every day.”

Alvin ISD Believes Award nominations will open to the public on February 25.

“All of the recipients are so well deserving. The District Design Team really set the bar by nominating staff that truly live out Alvin ISD’s Vision and Beliefs. I can’t wait to see the nominees that we get by opening up nominations district-wide,” shared Burns.
