Alvin ISD Board of Trustees approve changes to the 2015-16 Academic Calendar

Updated District Calendar

At the September 8th meeting of the Alvin ISD Board, Trustees approved the revised 2015-16 Alvin ISD Academic Calendar, which will go into effect immediately. The most notable change on the calendar was the conclusion of the school year, which went from June 1st to May 27th.

The update occurred due to a change in the annual school requirements from 180 days of instruction, to 75,600 minutes of instruction, as defined by House Bill 2610. This law allows for school districts to have the flexibility to create a calendar that meets the local needs.

In accordance with House Bill 2610, the revised district calendar removes the assignment of bad weather days, since the district has already accounted for them by exceeding the required 75,600 instructional hours at each campus.

High school campuses will now attend school for 77,790 minutes. Junior High campuses will attend for 76,875 minutes, while elementary campuses will attend for 76,905 minutes.

Other changes reflected in the updated academic calendar include the addition of full instructional days on October 21st and February 10th. These days had previously been scheduled as early release days. The late arrival days for high school students on September 16, October 7th, November 11th, January 27th, March 2nd, and April 6th were also eliminated, which added six full instructional days for students. High school graduation dates were also changed as follows: Alvin High School and ASSETS Academy students will graduate on May 28th, while Manvel High School students will now graduate on May 27th.
