Deborah Larvin4th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies
I'm super excited about starting my 17th year of teaching language arts. My experiences are primarily in the areas of literacy instruction, vocabulary development, English as a Second Language (ESL), and special needs students (including those identified with learning disabilities as well as giftedness). As a teacher, I not only take on the educational responsibility of instructing your child, but I also look after their physical and emotional well-being. With this in mind, I am incorporating a few innovative strategies in my classroom:
- Growth Mindset Parent's Guide to Growth Mindset
- Flexible Seating Parent Letter and Student Contract
- Google Classroom Click here and read the first section for an explanation.
All three of these concepts will empower the students to become more independent and responsible for their own learning while pushing to reach their full potential. We will engage in a variety of learning opportunities throughout each week: whole group lessons, instructional videos, games to practice skills, small group collaboration, individualized instruction and practice, and much more. I love learning new things almost as much as teaching, so my lesson plans change every year to keep it fresh for my students and myself. I believe we learn by doing, so my students will write every day in some form.
The only way for me to achieve success with your child is WITH YOUR HELP. Your child’s success this school year is directly related to our communication. Each week I will send home graded papers and notes. Please review these items and make comments if necessary. We can also easily contact one another through Skyward. If concerns arise, we can schedule a face-to-face or phone conference. My conference time is 8:00-8:50. Of course, the easiest way to reach me and receive a quick response is via email at firstname.lastname@example.org . Our team will also use REMIND to send out important notices from our grade level. Sign up by texting @hbckfh to 81010.
I look forward to a fabulous year of learning and growing with your child. Thank you in advance for your support.
