Mr. Jason Brown
Mr. Brown is beginning his eleventh year of teaching and he is excited to be joining the students and teachers of the G.W. Harby Junior High band family and Alivn ISD.
Mr. Brown began his teaching career at Wallace Middle School in Kyle, Texas, where he was the Symphonic Band director from 2012-2017. He also taught beginning Trumpet, Euphonium, Tuba, Trombone, Horn, Flute, and Double Reed classes there. While at Wallace, Mr. Brown established a tradition of UIL Sweepstakes with the program’s Non-Varsity Band. In 2016 and 2017, the Wallace Middle School Symphonic Band was named a Commended Winner for the Citation of Excellence Award presented by the Foundation for Music Education.
In 2017, Mr. Brown joined the Cedar Park Middle School Band team where he continued to teach beginning brass, and had the opportunity to teach beginning Saxophone. In 2018, the Cedar Park Middle School Concert Band was recognized as a Winner of the Citation of Excellence Award by the Foundation for Music Education. While at Cedar Park the program was recognized by the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic where he had the pleasure of conducting the Symphonic group in Chicago.
Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012. While at Texas State, he served as principal tuba in the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Caroline Beatty. He was also a member of the Bobcat Marching Band for three years, serving as tuba section leader in 2009. Additionally, he served as President of the Theta Alpha chapter of the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and he marched with the 2008 Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.
Mr. Brown’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. He has also served as a Region Band Clinician and as a staff member at the Texas State University and the Baylor University Band Camps.
Mr. Brown currently lives in League with his cat Shredder and his dogs Parker and Braxton. When he is not teaching he enjoys exploring the outdoors, weight lifting and cooking. He is grateful to his friends and mentors in the Band Director community who have helped him grow as a professional.
