Ms. Andrea Sanchez

Andrea Sanchez is in her seventh year of teaching and her second year as the Assistant Director of Bands at Alvin High School. Go Jackets! Ms. Sanchez is the Director of the Symphonic Winds, assists with the Alvin Marching Band, and is a woodwind specialist. 
Prior to Alvin HS, Ms. Sanchez was the Head Director of Bands at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas. She collaborated with a strong team of directors and led a 6th-12th grade band program with 650 students! During her time at LCHS, Ms. Sanchez and her students had the opportunity to perform in the Orchestra Hall (home of the Chicago Symphony), the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago, the Valero Alamo Bowl Championships Halftime Show, and the Director's Choice Invitational in Dallas and St. Padre Island. Ms. Sanchez also oversaw and trained the MIghty Mustand Band leadership team. In addition to her high school band duties, Ms. Sanchez taught beginning woodwinds at Wessendorff Middle School and the Concert Band II at Lamar Junior High. Ms. Sanchez and her students also earned the Mark of Excellence, Commended Winner Award in 2016! 
In addition to her band responsibilities, Ms. Sanchez enjoys collabortating with campus fine arts programs to put on a school musical! Ms. Sanchez has been fortunate to conduct the orchestra in The Little Shop of Horrors, School House Rock, Live!, Xanadu, and Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella. 
Ms. Sanchez graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Houston in 2014. Go Coogs! While attending the University of Houston, Ms. Sanchez was the drum major of the Spirit of Houston marching band for two years, as well as the flute section leader for one year. As a flutist, Ms. Sanchez studied with Peggy Russell (flutist of the Houston Ballet Orchestra) during her time at the University of Houston. In August 2018, Ms. Sanchez graduated Summa Cum Laude with the Master of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University. Wreck Em! While at Texas Tech, Ms. Sanchez was invited to present in research consortium events and focused on music research, philosophy, and pedagogy. Her primary professors were Dr. Janice Killian, Dr. Jacqueline Henninger, Dr. Keith Dye, and Dr. Eric Allen. 
Ms. Sanchez's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma. She also performs with the Sugar Land Winds, a concert ensemble located in Sugar Land, Texas. Ms. Sanchez has been invited to present in local, state, and national scale music education events/conferences. These include the National Association for Music Education virtual sessions, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and on her previous campuses. 
Ms. Sanchez enjoys attending all Houston sports games, traveling, spending time with friends and family, as well as taking care of her fur baby, Argo!
