Mr. Junkin is in his 2nd year at Alvin High School! He currently serves as an Assistant Band Director where he directs the Symphonic Band and assists with the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, and Concert Band as well as the Mighty Yellow Jacket Marching Band. Mr. Junkin is also the instructor for the AP Music Theory course at Alvin High School and served as interim Color Guard Director in the 2021 Winter Guard Season.
Mr. Junkin grew up in Pearland, Texas and attended Glenda Dawson High School. He then attended Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Trumpet as well as Music Composition. His primary instructors there were Professors Will Strieder and Richard Harris as well as Doctors Joe Vandiver and Peter Fischer. At Texas Tech, Mr. Junkin performed with many of the concert band and choir ensembles and was the President of the Epsilon Pi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. He also performed with the Goin Band from Raiderland for five years, serving as a trumpet section leader and drill instructor in 2019. In the Spring of 2020, Mr. Junkin was a recipient of the TMEA Collegiate Music Educators Award for distinguished graduating students.
Mr. Junkin is active in the DCI community as he marched four summers (2015-2018) with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and is currently on the Brass staff with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps. In his spare time he enjoys running and cheering on his favorite sports teams (the Houston Rockets, Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and especially Houston Astros).
Mr. Junkin is incredibly excited to be back in Southeast Houston and be a part of the Alvin High School Band family! He hopes to foster a positive and productive learning environment while creating lifelong memories for all of his students.
