English Language Learner's Department
Advocating for all students and connecting with families of emergent bilingual students.
The English Language Learner's (ELL) Department provides differentiated support to EB students.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
ESOL-English 1 and ESOL-English 2; are classes uniquely designed to assist newcomers with limited English language proficiency. In addition to the ESOL classes, recently arrived newcomers will receive additional language support through the following English as a Second Language (ESL) classes: ESL-Reading 1 and 2; Language Development and Acquisition, and Practical Writing.
Sheltered Instruction (SI)
Sheltered instruction (SI) is offered to EB students in all core subjects. SI teachers have received training on practical methods and strategies that promote English proficiency. SI Teachers place a great deal of emphasis on academic vocabulary as they use the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) to provide EB students with experiences that develop their proficiency in: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
