SeaPerch is an engaging underwater robotics program supported by the United States Navy and the Association of Unmanned Vehicle International Foundation. This after school activity gives scholars the opportunity to build a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) and complete underwater challenges designed to simulate real world scenarios, while incorporating STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) concepts.
The vision of Nolan Ryan Junior High is to have our scholars build and experiment with their ROV, practice utilizing their ROV to successfully face obstacle challenges and the Sea Perch 2018 challenge. In addition, they will represent their team and NRJH in excellence during Board presentations and Interviews. Our scholars involved in the SeaPerch program learn concepts in math and science during the manufacturing of the ROV and become motivated to consider STEM careers in their future.
In 2016, Nolan Ryan Junior High ranked 3rd place at the SeaPerch National competition. In 2017, Our Aqua Tigers Team repersented Nolan Ryan in Nationals. 2019, The Great Whites v2.0 and The Innovus teams made it to 2018 International SeaPerch Challenge June 1-3, 2018 at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, MA. The Great Whites v2.0 won overall for Middle School and The Innovus placed 11 out of 81 teams.
Last Year the Liopleurodons went to the2019 International Seaperch competition:Team placed in the top 8 middle school teams qualifying them to do a presentation to judges and other teams.Team got selected to present their "Citizenship Project" - Innovative ideas on how Seaperch ROV can be used in real world. Our proud longhorns did place 4th place overall- Middle School Division and placed 2nd place for their implementation of Engineering Design Process.
The Liopleurodons success with the SeaPerch program lies in the dedication of our scholars and sponsors, as well as, the parents who dedicate time, wisdom, and encouragement as coaches and volunteers to our SeaPerch teams.
