My name is Karla Klyng and I am your principal at Alvin Elementary School. Alvin ISD has been my education home since 1996. I started my teaching career at E.C. Mason Elementary in Manvel where I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades for 9 years. From there I moved to Mark Twain Elementary where I served as the Literacy Coordinator for six years and worked with students and teachers in Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade. I began my career in administration by serving as assistant principal for five years at both Alvin Primary and Alvin Elementary. I received my degree in education from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi and my Masters in Education Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
I have a strong background in literacy. My enthusiasm and love of reading and sharing books, as well as writing, is part of my educational philosophy. I believe that as parents and educators we must first teach children to love books. The best way to do this is to read to them consistently. End the day at home by reading to your child their favorite book or your favorite book you had as a child. Talk about the book and before you know it, you will be creating lasting memories. But most important, you are showing your child that reading is enjoyable and fun! Children will not embrace reading unless they enjoy books.
The mission of Alvin Elementary School is to provide a positive learning climate that ensures high expectations for all students, a strong instructional focus, accountability for student learning, and an emphasis on parent and community involvement. Our vision is to set an exemplary example of good first teaching for all students and provide students a solid foundation to become lifelong learners.
