My Why
My mission is to continue to utilize my growing love and experience for literature, speech and media by helping and challenging students to achieve academic excellence!
Learning is my passion and my sole reason for teaching. I live on questions; they feed my spirit. I am known to interview people – I want to know what others think about the world around us as well as the world within us. The classroom is one of my favorite places in the world – it is where monologues become dialogue. We all grow from knowing one another because life is a great teacher.
As I continue to evolve, I work to help, but most importantly, challenge students to use knowledge as their tools in order to build well-versed, sturdy, multi-functioning powerhouses - successful in and outside the classroom! While setting and maintaining high standards, I believe in exposing students to various resources in order for them to get the facts they need to form their substantiated opinions. I work in a healthy, drama-free learning environment and encourage them to think independently by weighing out their own thoughts in a concise and educated manner. I am excited about another year in education!
I am also a local author, entertainment columnist and independent filmmaker. Throughout high school, I enjoyed being actively involved in a number of activities including those related to what I have had the opportunity to teach. I attended a high school that had just been established. Being one of the first students there, the staff expected a lot out of us and we stepped up to the challenge(s). Due to that experience, I embrace the “new” as well as old practices that work. I was apart of Hightower High School’s Award Winning Media Academy and served as editor-in-chief of the Yearbook for 2 years. In college, I worked in radio. Currently, I am involved in a number of clubs and organizations relating to Language Arts and Journalism and am working on my third book.
