Mr. David B. Soward, M.S.

David B. Soward is an accomplished teacher with more than 20 years in the classroom.  His students have been accepted into some of the best theatre programs in the world, including those at New York University, the Juilliard School, University of California Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Duke University, Carnegie Mellon University, Yale University, University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, and Sam Houston State University.

Before joining the faculty at Alvin ISD, Mr. Soward served as the musical theatre director for Clear Brook High School and as the technical director for the nationally recognized program at Temple High School. While earning his Master of Science in Theatre, he served as an adjunct professor, director, and teaching fellow for the University of North Texas in Denton.  His productions have placed at state and national competitions and have received numerous Tommy Tune Awards nominations and awards.

As an actor, director, and writer, he has mounted professional productions all over Texas and served on the Board of Directors for the ITIS Theatre in Denton and Mosaic Theatre in Dallas.  For the Mosiac Theatre, Mr. Soward also served as the education outreach coordinator, working with high school programs throughout the Dallas area.

His master’s thesis at the University of North Texas explored funding methods and teaching pedagogy for successful fine arts programs throughout Texas.  This inspired Mr. Soward to earn his administrators certification and serve as an administrative intern for both Clear Creek ISD and Alvin ISD.  He is a 2014 graduate of Alvin ISD’s Leadership Academy and has served as the campus communications liaison on the design team for Manvel High School.  Mr. Soward has served as director for district convocation and the employee recognition ceremony in Alvin ISD and is presently developing the welcoming ceremony for the Texas Association of School Boards 2018 conference in Dallas.

He currently serves as the Chair for the Department of Fine Arts at Shadow Creek High School.

He and his wife, Stacy Weill (Director of Orchestras for Alvin ISD), have one daughter, Zoë, who is a student at Nolan Ryan Junior High.  They live in Shadow Creek.
