Mr. Fred Berner Jr.
My name is Fred Berner Jr. and I serve as the Special Education Social Studies teacher at Fairview Junior High School. As an Alvin native, I attended grades 1-12 in the district and graduated from Alvin High School in 1983. I left Alvin in 1994 to further my education and earned an associates degree in Computer Networking and Systems Administration. While working in the Dallas area I earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement. I then earned a Master’s of Liberal Arts in History and Political Science while managing the IT Helpdesk at the University of St. Thomas. My passion for education led me to leave the information technology field and become a teacher. My first teaching job was at Lone Star College/North Harris where I was an adjunct professor and taught freshman government for two semesters part-time. My first full-time K-12 job at a juvenile detention center in Granbury where I taught Social Studies for grades 6-12 and had the opportunity to help kids who needed it the most. in 2010 I was ready for a new challenge and left my job in Granbury and landed my job at Fairview and moved back home town. It has been a blessing in my life to return to my hometown and be able to give back to the community where I grew up and love. I believe that is my duty as an educator to challenge my students in their learning and that all my students have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
