Greetings!!! I grew up in Alvin, Texas. I graduated from Alvin High School in 1985. I went to college at Alvin Community College, and then on to the University of Houston, Clear Lake. I began teaching in Alvin in September, 1990. My husband and I moved to Montrose, Colorado in 1993-1994 when we were "footloose & fancy free" to see if the "grass was greener on the other side." It was for a while, but we got homesick and came home in 1994 where I went right back to Stevenson and began teaching. There's NO PLACE LIKE HOME (a Wizard of Oz moment). So in a nutshell... I taught 3rd grade for 3 years, subbed in Colorado + opened a mom and pop paper similar to a Greensheet called "The Ranch Hand," then came back, taught one semester of special ed, then moved to second grade where I have been teaching ever since- going on my 28th year. I married my wonderful husband, Mike in October, 1988. We have two beautiful daughters who are the "apples of our eyes."

I love to fish, collect vintage antique 40s-50s rhinestone jewelry, read, cook, garden, crochet, go to the movies,and SPEND TIME WITH MY FAMILY. I like eating at Gringos & Las Flores. I love fried chicken!!! I LOVE ALL KINDS OF MUSIC: Christian, 40s, 50s, 60s, 80s, 90s; R&B, Country,Classical, Rock- Van Halen, Enya, & Celtic.

I live on a small farm!!! I LOVE animals!!! I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 horses named Doughoy, Tex, and Axl, 3 tarantulas named Sunny, Rojo, & Ruby. I have 4 fish named Freedom, Fin, Knight, & Sky, 1 Ball Python snake named Java, 3 cows, 3 pot belly pigs named Evie, Lula Belle & Bentley!!! I also have 5 mini donkeys named Biggie, Junie, Tinkerbell, Bitsy, & Handsome. Biggie is due with her baby any time now. I also have 3 mice named Minnie, Fairy & Pixie. I have a tomato frog named One-eyed Jill, and a Gecko Lizard named Buzz. My girls love the animals, and they keep our house well stocked.
***ANIMALS FOR EDUCATION***
*CREEPY, CRAWLY CLASSROOM PETS* SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!!
We have Tarantula spiders as classroom pets!!! We have a Green-Bottle Blue Tarantula named "Sunny" who is orange, green, & peacock blue!!! She is one of the most colorful tarantulas !!! We have a Mexican Firelong Tarantula named "Rojo" who is black with fiery red legs!!! I named him after the color of his red legs. I recently added "Ruby" who is a Flame Rose Hair Tarantula. She is the size of a dime right now. They live on "cricket milkshakes".
I use these animals in my room to teach the children about critical thinking maps that brainstorm different characteristics of things. These animals lend extremely well to these thinking concepts because they are so different themselves. They are a great visual for the children, and a memorable school experience they won't soon forget. I have a very strict "LOOK BUT DON'T TOUCH" policy for my animals. These animals are NEVER taken out of their cages to handle at school, and their cages are locked. I didn't want my class to think that I wear them on my shirt like a brooch!!! I am not that "crazy teacher!!!" Ha, Ha,!!! These kinds of Tarantulas ARE NOT POISONOUS!!! Their bite is like a bee sting; however, the spiders WILL NOT EVER BE OUT OF THEIR CAGES, SO NO WORRIES!!!! I have added 3 mice, the leopard Gecko, and the tomato frog.
THESE ANIMALS FOR EDUCATION ARE GREAT VISUALS FOR TEACHING DIVERSITY & ACCEPTANCE.

"THE GOLDEN RULE"
I am a Christian. I live by the Golden Rule- "I treat others as I want to be treated." In all parts of the world, this concept appears. Each day I pray for God to shine through me and use me everyday in every way. I feel that I set expectations that are respectful to my students. They understand what is expected of them and what is accepted. As a mother, I remind myself daily of how I would want teachers to treat my children- with compassion, discipline, and respect. This attitude is what you will see with me. I look forward to an Outstanding School Year!!! May God bless us and help us to grow as LIFELONG LEARNERS!!!
