The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) program beginning in spring 2012. The STAAR program assesses students in grades 3–8 in reading and math. Students in grades 5 and 8 will take a Science STAAR assessment and students in grade 8 will take a Social Studies STAAR assessment.
For high school, students will take a Biology, Algebra I, English I, English II and U.S. History STAAR EOC assessment. These five EOCs, in addition to completing course requirements, are required to graduate high school. To view all State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) resources, visit the Texas Education Agency's STAAR webpage.
