    Ms. V. Cruse – Teacher

Welcome to 7th grade Reading and Writing.  This year we will follow the Alvin ISD literacy beliefs that literacy is reading, writing, listening, and discussing so that all learners can think critically, coherently, and flexibly. Through these beliefs’ students will have the confidence and willingness to engage with language, communicate effectively, participate in society, and achieve goals. Students will also have opportunities daily to read, write, and interact with culturally responsive text that creates relevant learning that provides meaning and value.

Class Work:  Unless otherwise noted, all class work is due the same day as assigned in class.  Not completing class work on time can result in a grade deduction.

Homework:  Learning does not end when the dismissal bell rings.  Homework will be assigned as needed and due the next class period unless otherwise noted.  Students will be expected to read at home daily for 30 minutes.  Information will be sent out after the initial library visit.

Tutorial Times: Tuesday 8:05am – 8:35am.  Wednesday 4:15pm – 4:45pm.  If this time does not work for you, please make other arrangements.  Please do not wait until grade deadlines to request assistance.

Grading Policy & Scale: All class work, homework, test, quizzes, and projects will count as a grade.  The grading scale is consistent with the district policy.

    Major grade = 40%.  Daily grade – 60%.

Absence:  After an absence it is your responsibility to ask about missed assignments.  Per district policy, students have THREE days from the day you return to school to submit the completed work unless arrangements are made with the parent.  It is your responsibility to request make-up work from other teachers as well.

Make-Up Assignments:  If you are dissatisfied with a Major grade that is 69 or less, you may request to retest within two (2) days of receiving the grade, however tutorials are required prior to retake.

Late Work: If a student turns in late work, the grade can be deducted 10 points for each day it is late.  After three (3) days, work is subject to not be accepted with a zero (0) recorded in the gradebook.  This late work policy adheres to the district guidelines.

Progress Report:  Progress reports will be distributed every three (3) weeks.  Keep an eye on your grades in Skyward and don’t wait until the last minute to talk about missing grades and/or ask for assistance.  It is your responsibility to keep up with your grades.
