Dr. Mark Spilman
Dr. Spilman has twenty-two years of experience working in public schools, and has been an adjunct professor at University of Houston-Downtown for nine years, where he works to prepare future educators. He is a gold level Writing teacher of teachers with Abydos Literacy Learning and is also a Grammar and Reading teacher of teachers. In addition, he participated in the Rice University School Mathematics Project where he learned highly effective strategies for the teaching of mathematics. In 2015, he received the Sue German Award from Abydos Literacy Learning for embodying the characteristics of: loyalty, grace, selflessness, honesty, and dedication to teaching, and in the Spring of 2021 he was recognized by the Children's Museum of Houston with the Martel Award for Excellence in Education.
Dr. Spilman defended his dissertation and graduated in May 2021 with a Doctor of Education degree in Literacy from the University of Houston. He also has a masters degree in school leadership from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a bachelor degree in Elementary Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, Tx. His two sons, Jacob and Luke, keep him very busy with extra-curricular activities, piano lessons, and swim team. We all look forward to a fantastic year!
