Tutorials are a unique time for students who desire additional explanations or enrichment to come in and to work, for the most part, one-on-one with myself. I will have tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday after school and by appointment.
The following is a tentative syllabus or outline for your first-year chemistry class:
1st Nine Weeks Safety and Equipment, Measurements and Calculations, Atoms,
Electrons in Atoms
2nd Nine Weeks Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, Nomenclature
3rd Nine Weeks Chemical Equations and Reactions, Oxidation/Reduction, Stoichiometry, Solutions
4th Nine Weeks Acids and Bases, Solids, Liquids, Gases, Nuclear Chemistry, Thermochemistry
BASIC CLASSROOM POLICIES
Every opportunity will be taken to create and provide a positive atmosphere for all students. I believe all students can behave appropriately and I expect no less. I intend to provide the very best education to all students; however, I do require each student’s effort and cooperation.
- Be on time. 2. Be on task. 3. Be respectful to everyone. 4. Be prepared for class.
- No food, drinks, or gum in the lab.
My expectations also include following all MHS policies as stated in the MHS Student Handbook. If a student chooses to break a rule, appropriate actions will be taken. These actions are:
- Verbal Warning 2. A call to the parents. 3. Referral to assistant principal.
Chemistry Notebook Format
Organization is one of the best keys to success. Your chemistry notebook will enable you to stay organized in chemistry. Throughout this course you will receive many handouts, homework assignments, tests, quizzes, ect… keeping them together will help you a great deal.
Organization of Notebook:
You will keep all of your class notes, homework assignments, and tests in a 3 ring binder. The binder will be broken into 2 sections. Below is how your notebook should be organized. Find the following papers and use dividers to setup your notebook.
Section 1: Class Notes/Handouts
- Course Description, Syllabus, & Basic Policies (front side) and Chemistry Notebook Format (back side)
- Equipment Description Sheet
Section 2: Graded Work (homework, quizzes, worksheets, projects, and tests)
- Chemistry Daily Grade Reporting Sheet (Homework Credit Card)
- Safety/First Day of Chemistry Activity
