Marek EARLY Robotics is ready to start the 2019-2020 school year.
Thank you to everyone that came to Marek for the parent meeting. If you missed it, the link to the presentation is below.
We are looking for robotics coaches! If you are interested in coaching, please contact Ms. Wang at firstname.lastname@example.org or Ms. Raven at email@example.com. All coaches will need to fill out a volunteer form/background check. Coaches will ensure their child's participation in EARLY robotics.
2nd graders will be able to participate in the spring semester. Please stay tuned for more information.
The History of Marek's EARLY Robotics:
Marek Elementary was the first Alvin ISD campus to be certified as an Engineering and Robotics Learned Young (EARLY) school by NASA, the University of Houston and the EARLY organization. Each year there are two separate challenges created by the EARLY organization that must be completed by participating campuses in order to earn certification. The challenges vary in theme and strategy and consist of teams building robots from LEGO Simple & Motorized Mechanisms Kits. The robots designed and built by the teams must perform certain tasks or “missions,” on a four by four feet course with obstacles, in a two minute time period.
Marek first piloted its Future Engineers robotics program in 2008, and it has grown from 14 students to more than 200. Our program emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation and is made possible by our wonderful and supportive parent volunteers.
Awards accumulated over the years have included Best Design, Top Rookie Seed, Robot finalist, and first place in EARLY Elementary Programs.
In January 2012, the school hosted its first official EARLY tournament, the Shadow Creek Neighborhood EARLY Tournament, which consisted of more than 100 participants from elementary and middle school campuses around the Houston area. Over the years, our tournament has expanded and we have more and more Alvin ISD elementary schools joining in the fun!
