Students and Parents,
Another busy week in the Shadow Creek Band!
ALL-STATE MUSICIANS/AREA AUDITION RESULTS
After months and months of preparation and auditions, Shadow Creek Band members Ali Rehman (Percussion) and James Laase (English Horn) were named to the TMEA All-State Band this weekend! Earning a place in an All-State group is the highest honor a school musician can achieve, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishment! Congratulations to all of our students who auditioned this weekend, and to all of our students who participated in the All-State process by learning their region music and trying out in auditions throughout November, December, and January.
PARENT MEETING, THIS TUESDAY!!!
We need parents representing all of our band students at our parent meeting this Tuesday! We have a lot to talk about, including:
Spring Semester Events
2020/21 Trip to Orlando
Spring Booster Needs
Upcoming Mattress Fundraiser
Come out on Tuesday the 14th, and help us start off 2020 right!
SCHS FOOTBALL TEAM CELEBRATION - FREEDOM FIELD - JANUARY 22ND (PLAYOFF SHIRT)
Alvin ISD and Shadow Creek High School will be celebrating the 2019 State Champion Shadow Creek HS Football team on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7pm, and the SC Band will be there as a part of the celebration. The band will be in uniform, on the field, at Freedom Field performing the National Anthem and the Fight Song. Because this is an evening performing in marching uniforms, we will essentially be running a football game schedule. There are not many details yet for this event, but a basic outline of the evening looks like this:
4:30-5:30pm Eat and Change
5:45pm Depart for Freedom Field
6:30pm On the Field
7:45pm Load Buses and Trucks
8:15pm Back at SCHS
8:45pm Go Home
SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTESTS
There are a couple of different dates for Solo and Ensemble this year:
Saturday, February 22nd - Percussion Ensemble Festival
Friday, February 28th - Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band Ensembles
Saturday, February 29th - Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band Solo Contest
Thursday, March 5th - Percussion Solo Contest
Wind students performing a solo with a pianist, should expect to pay their accompanist between $45 and $50, depending on the difficulty of the part. This expense covers the accompanist's practice time, two rehearsals with the student, and the performance. Every wind and percussion student performing in a solo or ensemble event must pay a $10 fee per event to cover contest costs. For example, a student only performing a solo, but no ensemble, would pay $10, but a student performing a solo AND an ensemble would pay $20. Again, this applies to all wind AND percussion students involved in the contests.
Private lessons are for any student who wants to achieve at a higher level than where they are now. Whether you're an experienced All-State Band member or a younger player just trying to figure things out, you need lessons to get the most out of your band experience! If you're interested in private lessons, fill out this form or contact Mr. Mooney at email@example.com.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
