    5:45AM-1:45PM

    CHALLENGER COLUMBIA STADIUM

  • Students and Parents,

After three months of work and improvement, UIL Marching Contest is here this week!  The students have grown tremendously over the last couple of performances, and are still pushing to make our final performances of "Playing with Fire!" unforgettable experiences for all involved!

    UIL CROWD SUPPORT!

Parents, we do need as much help as possible at contests, but if you're unable to chaperone, there's another way you can help!  We need parents at UIL and potentially Area in the stands cheering for the band!

    Here's what we need:

    • Sit together and BE LOUD!
    • If there's a solo, clap and cheer, whether it's an instrument or a rifle/sabre toss!
    • If the band stands still and gets loud, cheer loudly!
    • If anything flies in the air, cheer (even if it's not caught)!
    • At the end of each movement (the different sections of the show), cheer!
    • Cheer when the band enters the field AND when it exits the field!

Basically, we would love to have more parents in the crowd, and we still need all the help we can get moving on and off the field.  We're asking for as many SCHS parents and friends as possible to attend these two events and show off your support of the SCHS Band!

KATY MARCHING CONTEST and POTENTIAL UPCOMING CONTESTS

The band started out with a outstanding Prelims performance of "Playing with Fire!" in the afternoon at Katy, and earned a place in Finals among other very strong band programs!  The band finished 4th in class 5A in both Prelims and Finals, and most importantly, had the opportunity to perform under pressure in the same stadium where we will potentially be performing for Area in two weeks.

This year, all 5A bands who earn a 1st division rating at UIL will qualify for Area Marching Contest on 10/26 at Legacy Stadium in Katy.  After competiting against the other 5A 1st division bands from the surrounding regions, the top 2 or 3 5A bands at Area will qualify for the State Marching Contest in San Antonio on Monday and Tuesday, 11/4 and 11/5.  If we do make it to State, we will be rehearsing on Friday and Saturday, 11/1 and 11/2, and will be travelling to San Antonio on Sunday, 11/3.

With Thursday, 11/8 being Senior Night at the last regular season football game, State is our last possible performance of "Playing with Fire!"

    VOLUNTEERS

We're always looking for parent help, especially on performance days!  There are many, many ways to help with the band - if you're interested in finding out more about volunteer opportunities, email Daisy at volunteers@schsband.org.

    PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons are for any student who wants to achieve at a higher level than where they are now.  Whether you're an experienced All-State Band member or a younger player just trying to figure things out, you need lessons to get the most out of your band experience!  If you're interested in private lessons, fill out this form or contact Mr. Mooney at jmooney@alvinisd.net

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

    Josh Mooney
