• About Alvin ISD’s Magnet Academic Program (MAP)

    Alvin ISD's Magnet Academic Program (MAP)  is housed on the campus of every junior high in Alvin ISD.

    All 5th grade students in Alvin ISD are considered for acceptance into the Magnet Academic Program (MAP).  Students may qualify for one or both components of MAP.  The two components are Math/Science and Humanities (Language Arts and Social Studies). 





    6th Grade

    7th Grade

    8th Grade


    Students cover 6th, 7th, & 8th grade TEKS.

    Students take the 8th grade math STAAR exam.

    Students receive high school credit for this class.

    Students take the Algebra I EOC.

    Students receive high school credit for this class.


    Students cover a combination of 6th grade and 8th grade TEKS.

    Students cover combination of 7th grade and 8th grade TEKS.

    Students take 8th grade science STAAR exam.

    Students focus on chemistry and physics in order to build a better foundation for advanced courses.




    MAP Humanities students take both a MAP Humanities Social Studies class and a MAP Humanities Reading or Language Arts class.  The goal of these courses is to open the minds of students to the diverse voices of the world and to encourage students to make connections to social studies concepts through various genres and formats (e.g., essays, articles, poetry, fiction, photographs, maps, theater, art, and music) in English/Language Arts.



    Students are notified of their MAP qualification status by letter in May.  Letters are sent to students’ elementary campuses.
