Welcome to the Harby Junior High Band website! We are passionate about teaching music and dedicated to helping each student achieve success.
Most students who start band have little or no prior musical training. We start from “scratch” in all phases.
Harby’s Beginning Band students are divided into classes which include:
Woodwinds: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe & Bassoon
Brass: Cornet/Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone & Tuba
Percussion: Snare Drum, Mallet, Keyboard, Timpani, Bass Drum & Cymbals
As the seventh and eighth grade students’ skills improve, they are placed in either Symphonic Band I or Symphonic Band II. Both Symphonic Band I and Symphonic Band II perform several times throughout the year. These ensembles participate in the University Interscholastic League’s Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and various music festivals.
The study of instrumental music improves students’ higher-level thinking skills as well as problem solving techniques. Studies have shown learning a musical instrument helps to develop higher mental skills more than any other form of activity.
Harby Band students actively participate in student council, various sports (including football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and swimming), national junior honor society, karate, yearbook, and various other campus groups. As a Harby Band member, they will develop friendships and learn to work as a team. Our band students find a second home among the highest achievers, brightest stars, and accomplished athletes at Harby Junior High.
