The Manvel High School Criminal Justice students had the honor and privilege of meeting former Texas Ranger, Dr. Christine Nix on February 27, 2017. Alvin ISD Officer Garrett, a long time friend of Dr. Nix, helped make this opportunity a noteworthy addition to the recognition of Black History Month. Dr. Nix is not only the first but also the only, black female to ever be promoted to Texas Ranger in the history of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Dr. Nix began her career with Texas DPS in 1984, she served as Texas Ranger from 1994 to 2004. She specialized in Forensic Hypnosis and was stationed with company F in Waco, TX. Prior to her legacy career in DPS, she served as a police officer for the City of Temple, TX. She is also a US Veteran, having served in the US Army Reserves for 23 years. Today, Dr. Nix is the Program Coordinator of Criminal Justice at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dr. Christine Nix is living history!
