     Algebra 1 R Syllabus 2019-2020

    Mrs. Williams

Course Description:  Students will examine functions and relationships, including linear and quadratic. Students will explore patterns and structure, number and algebraic methods, and modeling from data using tools that build to workforce and college readiness such as probes, measurement tools, and software tools, including spreadsheets.

Calendar:  A calendar will be provided every unit and be kept in your student’s binder. Please keep in mind that we will allow for flexibility of dates as necessary.

Supply List:  1 folder / binder, 2 packages of #2 pencils, and a box of Kleenex.

Assignments:  We work bell to bell.  Students start with warm-ups, we have a lesson, and then we have collaborative or individual assignments to complete.  All assignments are designed to be completed in class. Rarely will work be sent home.

Students who are absent on test days must make arrangements to attend after school tutorials to complete their exam.  Power Hour is not sufficient time for testing.

Students who wish to retest on poor test grades need to attend tutorials, correct assignments or complete alternate assignments BEFORE retesting.  The goal is to have sufficient practice and learning occur so that student show mastery. To retest for full credit, students must come to two tutoring sessions in addition to their retesting day.  To retest for half points back students must come to one tutoring session in addition to their retesting day.

    Make-up Work:

Every student is responsible for getting their missing assignments completed.  If you are absent from class for any reason see the teacher to get missed assignments. There will be a designated area for you to get any missed work/notes. The work/notes will have your name it.  I am available after school several days each week. Please touch base with me during the day or email me if you are unable to make it to school or know you will be out for some reason.

    Grading Policy:

Major Grades/Projects/Tests:  50% of student grade

Daily Assignments / Quizzes: 50% of student grade.

    Classroom Guidelines:

    1. Be on-time.
    2. Participate.
    3. Encourage your peers.
    4. Be respectful.

    Cell Phones:

We will follow the school cell phone policy, not seen, not heard, not taken. No cell phone use will not be allowed during class unless it is part of the lesson plan. Cell phone use during class is not allowed.  Students using phones during inappropriate times will have their phones taken up and turned into the office per school protocol.

We will be using TI Nspire CX calculators in class this year.  All students must sign the calculator contract in order to use these.  Calculators are school property and should be treated respectfully.

I am available for tutorials on Mondays from 3:00-3:30pm, maybe subject to change, but I will have a tutorial schedule posted on the classroom door. Other times could be available by appointment.

Email is my preferred contact method.  Please feel free to email me at anytime.  I will respond within 24 – 48 hours. Phone calls will be returned at the end of the school day whenever possible.

    Let’s Have a GREAT year!
