Hi! My name is Heather Monaghan, and this will be my 5th year in the Curriculum and Instruction department. I graduated from Friendswood High School in '01, a proud member of the graduating class of 2005 from Texas A&M *WHOOP*, and I graduated in 2015 with my Masters in Educational Leadership!

I am entering my 13th year in education, and beginning my 11th year with Alvin ISD. In the classroom, I have taught Pre-K and Pre-K inclusion, Resource ELA and Math, co-teach, PPCD, and Fundamental Skills.

I have wanted to work in the special education field since I was in the 3rd grade. I had a student in my class that had such an impact on me, it began shaping my career path at the age of 9 years old. In high school, I spent some time in the Life Skills classroom, just hanging out with some of my new friends during my office aid period. I knew going into my freshman year of college that I wanted my degree in special education, but I did NOT want to be a teacher. Teachers were overworked and underpaid! As I completed my semester of student teaching in PPCD, I realized how much I loved being in the classroom, so much to my younger self's dismay, I became a teacher. I have not regretted a single moment!
