Dr. Jay McLeeland

Hailing from Belfast, North Ireland, I have been in the U.S. since I was 7 years old. In the gap between high school and university I served in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout in Operation Joint Endeavor. I first attended Sam Houston State University, then The University of Houston, followed by Colorado Tech, Southern New Hampshire University, culminating with Trinity Law School.

Teaching came to me in 2005 at Sam Houston State and then in 2007 with secondary education in Fort Bend ISD but I was quickly picked up by a university where I worked my way from adjunct professor to department chair and interim campus director. I remain a professor of History for ACC and SNHU. With Covid, I was able to spend more time with my family and I decided to transition out of higher education administration back to my love of teaching, where I joined Pearland High in senior Government and Coached Swim/Dive/Water Polo. This is my 16th year in education.

I am honored to have been chosen for Iowa Colony as an inaugural faculty member in 2022-23 and will be teaching World History at all three levels of rigor (OL, APA and AP) in addition to being the faculty sponsor for the Student Council.

It is my intent to make ICHS my forever home and move into Government (OL, DC and AP) while leading the social studies department as we grow in the future.
