    About Me

    Alex Kang is in his sixth year as the Director of Percussion for the Manvel High School cluster in Manvel, TX. His responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the percussion program, assisting with concert bands, and teaching percussion at Manvel JH and Rodeo Palms JH. Prior to joining the band staff at Manvel, he spent three years as the Associate Director of Bands at Heritage Middle School in Lubbock, TX. He has also worked with many other successful programs including Seven Lakes HS, Cinco Ranch HS, Stephen F. Austin HS, and Frenship HS. 


    Originally from Katy, Texas, Mr. Kang holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Texas Tech University. During his time at Texas Tech, Mr. Kang studied percussion under Dr. Lisa Rogers and Mr. Alan Shinn. He has performed at PASIC in Austin and Indianapolis, TMEA, ISME in Beijing, and other various events. Mr. Kang also performed with the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sarah McKoin and the Symphony Orchestra under Gary Lewis and Dr. Andrew George. During his time in these ensembles, he performed in concerts at TMEA in 2008 and 2012, and CBDNA in 2011. Mr. Kang was also a part of the famed Goin’ Band from Raiderland, where he marched on the tenor line and snare line. 


    In addition to teaching, Mr. Kang was also the second chair percussionist with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro David Cho. He has performed with many artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Joshua Bell, Conrad Tao, The Texas Tenors, and many others. He was also a member of the Houston Rockets “Sonic Boom” Drumline, where he played snare.


    Mr. Kang is a member of PAS, TBA, and TMEA. He is also an endorser of Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.


    Mr. Kang is married to his wife Rebekah, a pediatric ICU nurse. They have two huge dogs, Mia and Samantha.
