Hello my fellow Yellowjackets! I am so excited to be be teaching at Alvin High School this school year! I am going into my 3rd year of teaching high school math. Prior to coming to AHS, I taught at Dayton High School in Dayton, TX where "everyday was a great day to be a BRONCO"! (Did you catch the school spirit?) Don't worry - I have that same passion and tenacity for all my future YELLOWJACKETS! This will my third year teaching Algebra 1 and every year gets better and better. I have also taught Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus, for those kiddos who may need extra help in those subjects. Needless to say - I MATH!!
I am a proud native of Belzoni, Mississippi where I graduated from Mississippi Valley State University with a B.S. in Mathematics. I met my husband, Jacob Smith (MHS Educator) in Mississippi and we have been married for 12 years with two beautiful children - Jacob, 16 and Christina, 9. Before moving to Texas in 2014, we resided in Maryland for 10+ years where I worked for the Department of Navy as an Operations Research Analyst. Also, I attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD earning a M.S. degree in Technical Management.
I am super excited for the opportunity to teach your children and hopeful that we, working as a collaborative team, can ensure ALL our students achieve success!
The following quote by an anonymous writer unequivocally summarizes the beliefs of AHS as well as myself, "Fair isn't everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need in order to be successful!" It is my belief that all children are individuals and should be taught in a fashion that addresses their individual learning styles and passions as often as there are opportunities. Consequently, if you allow a student's natural curiosity to lead their voyage into the unknown, not only will they be more interested in the topic, but it then becomes personal to them and far more important.
