The mission of the Stevenson Primary Library is

to be a magic carpet for learning, linking, and critical thinking

so that all children are empowered to become

 lifelong effective and creative users of information and ideas and

active and helpful citizens in our world.

 

The library is open for students from 7:30-3:00 daily so that students can trade books often.

Each class visits the library on the same day every week.

 


Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students may have two books checked out at a time. Members of the Chapter Book Club may check out three books at one time. No fines are charged for overdue books but students should return or renew books every week. Lost books need to be paid for and there are fines for damaged books. Parents are also welcome to visit the library, to obtain a library card, and to check out up to five books for their children.


A section of our library is called the GO book section. It consists of donated books and magazines. These books have a round green sticker on the spine signifying a green traffic signal. Students will be able to choose a GO book if they forget to return their books. Checkout will be on the honor system. They can just pick one and "go".


If you have children's books or magazines at home that your children will no longer be reading and you would like to donate them to the Stevenson library, we would love to have them! Just send or bring them to the library.


The library is also in need of library volunteers. If you can volunteer a few hours a week to shelve or checkout books, please contact Mrs. Nance or Mrs. Pena.

 

 

 

About the Librarian

Mrs. Nance

 

The librarian is Mrs. Debbie Nance. She has lived in Alvin all her life. She loves reading, playing guitar, and hanging out with her puppets. Residing in the library with Mrs. Nance and our library assistant, Mrs. Maricella Pena, are twelve tropical fish, one blue-tongued skink (Lizzie), one cockatiel (Shegecko), and one chinchilla (Chi-Chi). Mrs. Nance's undergraduate degree is from University of Houston and her master's degree is from UHCL. She likes to be called the Queen of the Library.

Students and all residents of the Alvin ISD community are fortunate to be able to access several online resources to assist them in their research both at school and at home. Students can access World Book Online, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, and Nettrekker, as well as many other reference materials.
